Custodian

Job overview

The custodian is in charge of keeping assigned areas clean, sanitary, and well maintained. This role includes routine janitorial work, safe handling of hazardous waste, use of cleaning equipment, and support for day-to-day facility upkeep.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out janitorial and cleaning tasks across the assigned areas.
• Complete all items listed on the daily work schedule.
• Handle hazardous waste duties such as collecting, sorting, classifying, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging special and hazardous materials.
• Use motorized cleaning equipment as required.
• Maintain the assigned area in a clean condition throughout the shift.
• Report incidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor promptly.
• Follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Stop unsafe actions by yourself or others when observed.
• Work cooperatively with team members on shared assignments.
• Perform repetitive tasks as part of the job.
• Keep the work area neat and orderly.
• Adhere to company protocols, procedures, policies, and rules.
• Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, coworkers, managers, and customers.
• Provide coverage when the team is short staffed.
• Assist the shift lead with punch-list items.
• Use the required personal protective equipment correctly.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
• Support customer service and satisfaction goals.
• Understand and follow reporting systems and environmental requirements.

Qualifications

No specific formal education is required. A mix of education and experience is acceptable. Prior training or experience of 3 to 6 months is preferred.

Certificates and licenses

A valid driver’s license may be required. Completion of safety and task-related training certifications is expected. Forklift certification may also be required.

Skills and abilities

• Bilingual communication is an advantage.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, procedures, manuals, and related documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Ability to maintain and care for cleaning equipment properly.
• Understanding of cleaning chemicals and compounds, including safe and efficient use.

Supervisory role

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Physical requirements and work environment

The role may require frequent sitting, speaking, and listening. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds. The work setting reflects the normal conditions encountered while carrying out the essential duties of the job. Schedule and pay

The shift runs from Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 PM to 6:00 AM. Compensation ranges from $13.75 to $14.75 per hour.
