Custodian at Auckland Temple, New Zealand

Overview

The Special Projects Department (SPD) is looking to hire a permanent, full-time Custodian for the Auckland Temple. This role involves maintaining the sacred cleanliness and beauty of the temple's interior and its surrounding buildings, supporting a respectful environment for worship, instruction, and sacred practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all assigned temple areas are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards befitting a house of worship.
• Contribute positively and collaboratively as part of the custodial team.
• Communicate clearly and promptly with the supervisor about any concerns, issues, damages, or hazards.
• Exhibit reliability, diligence, consistency, and a cooperative attitude in daily duties.
• Handle and arrange furnishings such as rugs, furniture, draperies, and chandeliers, and assist in preparing meeting spaces as needed.
• Use cleaning chemicals responsibly, following safety guidelines and wearing required protective equipment.
• Operate motorized equipment including vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners, and hand tools skillfully to ensure exceptional cleaning standards.
• Participate in safety and equipment training to maintain efficient and safe work practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience in custodial work, with familiarity in handling cleaning supplies and equipment maintenance.
• Experience cleaning delicate surfaces like marble, stained glass, brass, carpets, tile, and grout, including working at heights.
• Proficiency in operating cleaning machines such as buffers, carpet cleaners, vacuums, and other powered tools.
• Physical ability to lift up to 55 pounds, push loaded carts, bend, crawl, reach, climb ladders, and work full 8-hour shifts.
• Effective communication skills in English, capable of understanding and following both verbal and written instructions, with the ability to ask questions when clarification is needed.
• Legal authorization to work in New Zealand.
• A police background check might be required as part of the hiring process.
