Job description

Role overview

This custodial position is responsible for keeping guest rooms and shared areas clean, orderly, and ready for use. The role operates under the direction of the Executive Housekeeper or another supervisor, who sets priorities, work methods, and deadlines. Work progress, quality, and guest satisfaction are monitored through ongoing review.

Primary duties

  • Clean rooms, hallways, stairways, and common spaces.
  • Use brooms, mops, vacuums, scrubbers, waxers, buffers, and similar light equipment to sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, and polish floors and surfaces.
  • Dust, wax, and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Sanitize, disinfect, and deodorize bathrooms and toilet areas.
  • Remove trash and waste from assigned areas.
  • Make beds and replace bed linens.
  • Wash mirrors, walls, windows, and blinds.
  • Restock toiletries and room amenities.
  • Inspect rooms and report any maintenance or repair issues.
  • Keep cleaning supplies, room stock, and amenity supplies organized and available for assigned work.

Skills and knowledge needed

The job calls for the ability to follow directions, read posted signs, understand basic cleaning agents, and use common custodial tools and equipment. The worker should also be able to remove different types of stains from a variety of surfaces and handle minor troubleshooting, adjustments, and equipment upkeep.

Work style and supervision

Tasks are assigned by supervisors or team leads, and the employee is expected to complete them independently. Performance is checked during the job and after completion for productivity, appearance, quality, and guest satisfaction.

Physical demands

The role requires frequent standing and walking on hard and carpeted surfaces, along with some bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Items or carts may weigh up to 20 pounds.

Working conditions

Most work is performed indoors in spaces with adequate heat, lighting, and ventilation. The position involves exposure to dirt, unpleasant odors, and potential skin irritation from cleaning products. Care must be taken to avoid injury while moving furniture and using powered equipment.

Employment conditions

  • Direct deposit and a Social Security card are required at the time of appointment.
  • Applicants must meet all qualification, eligibility, and background-screening standards for the role.
  • A pre-employment medical examination is required.
  • The schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Pre-employment checks must be completed under AR 215-3, paragraph 2; a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card and access to federally controlled facilities may also be required.
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • The applicant must be capable of following simple oral instructions and using hand tools or lightweight powered cleaning equipment, which generally do not require prior training or work experience.

Qualification note

All qualifications must be clearly supported in the resume.

Additional information

This is a limited-tenure role for up to 15 months. It is an unaccompanied assignment, meaning logistical support for family members is not provided. Dorm-style housing is offered instead of a living quarters allowance. Transportation to and from Germany is provided according to the Joint Travel Regulation and the signed transportation agreement. Military spouses and family members who already live within the Garmisch Military Community and apply under this announcement may be considered for a regular appointment.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • All Federal NAF employees must receive salary through electronic funds transfer/direct deposit.
  • A probationary period may apply.
  • Selection is subject to hiring preference and priority consideration rules.
  • Permanent Change of Station costs are not authorized because the government has determined that a PCS move is not in its interest.
  • Living quarters allowance is not authorized.
  • This is a Nonappropriated Fund position supporting Morale, Welfare and Recreation activities for the Army.

Benefits and eligibility context

A federal role includes access to a broad benefits package. The specific benefits available depend on the appointment type and whether the position is full-time, part-time, or intermittent.

Applicants should be committed to improving government efficiency, supporting the principles of the American republic, and upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution.
