Job Overview
The Town of Nantucket's Culture & Tourism Department is seeking a dedicated Cultural Affairs & Special Events Coordinator. Reporting to the Director, this role is focused on planning and managing activities at Children’s Beach, as well as overseeing a variety of special events run by the Department. The position also involves organizing daily operations related to the Special Events & Film Permitting Division and delivering clerical, customer service, and administrative assistance for the entire office, including Visitor Services support.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should possess a college diploma or an equivalent qualification. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of experience in hospitality or tourism, although any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that equips the individual with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. Proficiency with computers, particularly familiarity with or the ability to learn project management and electronic data management software, is essential. Additionally, holding a valid class D driver's license issued by the state of Massachusetts is required.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position classified under the LiUNA Union, S2 category, offering benefits. Starting hourly wages range from $39.76 for new employees up to $50.36 for individuals with 20 years of service to the Town of Nantucket. Employees qualify for a retirement pension managed by Barnstable County Retirement and have access to employer-sponsored health insurance covering 90% of premiums, along with various supplemental insurance options.
