Position Overview

This teaching opportunity is a part-time high school role at Kennedy High School focused on Medical & Health Careers within a Career and Technical Education (CTE) framework. This program serves students in grades 10 through 12 through a structured sequence of courses designed to provide a foundational understanding of health science fields.

Program and Curriculum

The Medical & Health Careers curriculum introduces students to various medical professions including emergency medical services, physical therapy, sports medicine, kinesiology, and health system management. Students may have the chance to earn certifications and participate in internships relevant to health occupations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, hands-on instruction based on approved curriculum focusing on both technical content and workplace readiness skills.
  • Facilitate student involvement in industry competitions, career exploration activities, professional associations, and pathways toward postsecondary education or employment.
  • Incorporate project-based learning experiences such as capstone projects and competitions to enhance understanding.
  • Coordinate with core subject teachers to align and integrate course content.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel—including college and career coaches, counselors, and CTE program coordinators—to identify and recommend students ready for workforce entry.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in medical-related fields such as emergency medical services, physical therapy, sports medicine, occupational therapy, nursing, or related health careers.
  • Preferred credentials include a teaching credential in Physical Education, Science, or other secondary education credentials recognized by California.
