Job description

Overview

This role is dedicated to managing risk and credit operations for assigned transactions, following established guidelines to maintain the quality of the portfolio. It involves collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Risk teams within Aditya Birla Housing Finance Limited (ABHFL) to ensure proficient risk management.

Company and Industry Context

ABHFL, a part of the Aditya Birla Financial Service Group and registered under the National Housing Bank Act, specializes in comprehensive housing finance solutions including home and construction loans, balance transfers, and loans against property. Operating in a rapidly growing Indian housing finance market valued at Rs. 11.4 trillion with a 17% CAGR, the company aims for robust growth while maintaining asset quality despite challenges.

Given the sensitive nature of housing finance and regulatory demands, strict compliance with risk management guidelines and controls is critical to safeguard both customer and business interests.

Role Context and Challenges

The Risk team provides essential underwriting that supports ABHFL's business health and risk sustainability. This position is aligned alongside Sales roles and is accountable for implementing necessary controls and process validations to secure business performance.

Key challenges include managing construction risks related to incomplete projects, balancing risk mitigation with aggressive growth targets, and adapting to state-specific regulations and practices that affect business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out risk and credit operations as per frameworks for assigned transactions across all business lines.
  • Proactively seek guidance on technical and regional property nuances to ensure effective risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with risk colleagues for clarifications on legal and technical issues relating to property evaluation.
  • Coordinate efficiently with Credit Processing Analysts to ensure accurate logging of case files before initiating credit operations.
  • Facilitate smooth communication and problem-solving between Sales and Operations teams, escalating issues to Regional Credit Manager (RCM) when needed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to risk management principles and maintain comprehensive MIS, reports, and escalation documentation.
  • Operate local risk functions systematically following the 'Maker-Checker' process, covering exception approvals, collateral valuations, post-dated cheque completion, and bounced cheque collections.
  • Work closely with collections and operations teams to monitor delinquency cases and drive effective recovery, escalating complex cases to RCM to avoid non-performing assets (NPA).
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance underwriting skills and understanding of property business practices and technical documents.
  • Build and maintain strong internal relationships to streamline coordination on complex, exceptional, or escalated cases.

Qualifications and Skills

  • CA or MBA in Finance preferred.
  • Experience ranging from no prior experience up to 3 years in Banking, NBFC, or HFC sectors.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capabilities, interpersonal and presentation skills, and ability to execute effectively.
