Job description

About Magnafire

Magnafire is a comprehensive creative studio crafting bold, culturally relevant video content for brands in outdoor, sport, retail, and wellness sectors. Their work is tailored for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube and includes collaborations with renowned brands such as Arc'teryx, Red Bull, lululemon, Brooks Running, Meta, and TaylorMade Golf. Notably, they have managed Arc'teryx's TikTok account from its inception, growing it to over half a million followers.

Role Overview

The company seeks a Creative Producer capable of managing productions end-to-end: overseeing logistics, crew, equipment, budgets, contracts, and client communications throughout the project lifecycle. This role also involves occasional creative directing. The candidate will immediately take ownership of their productions and serve as producer for all shoots.

The Creative Producer acts as the operational pillar within each production, primarily focusing on producing while also offering creative direction as a secondary strength. They proactively resolve potential problems, ensuring projects remain punctual, within budget, and smoothly executed. The producer is the dependable and composed client liaison once projects receive approval.

Compensation and Employment Details

  • Full-time, on-site position based in East Vancouver with hybrid flexibility.
  • Salary: CAD 72,000 to 90,000 annually, plus potential bonuses; placement depends on experience with higher salaries for candidates experienced in large-scale producing.
  • Benefits include three weeks of paid vacation and paid sick leave.
  • Occasional pre/post-shoot hours required; approved extra hours may be accrued as time off.
  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with some on-set work during mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main client contact after project approval, managing kickoffs, schedules, approvals, and status reports confidently under pressure.
  • Handle comprehensive production management including budgets, timelines, crew, gear procurement, permits, and call sheets from pre-production to post-production handoff, anticipating and mitigating project risks.
  • Lead producing duties as showrunner on major director-led shoots, allowing directors to focus on creative direction.
  • Occasionally direct productions by creating shot lists, pre-visualizations, and providing on-location creative direction, with opportunities to expand directing responsibilities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with freelancers, vendors, and manage equipment rental decisions in coordination with the Head of Production.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and smooth transition to post-production, including delivering assets and director notes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least four years of hands-on video production experience including managing budgets, schedules, crews, and vendors on client-facing projects.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues before they escalate, supported by concrete past examples.
  • Comfortable and polished in client communications, managing accounts with professionalism under pressure.
  • Strong technical knowledge of camera systems, lighting, and overall production equipment; savvy in social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube with social-first storytelling acumen.
  • Excellent budgeting and organizational skills with proficiency in spreadsheets and call sheets; practical familiarity with AI tools in pre-production processes.
  • Authentically creative with the ability to direct projects aligning with Magnafire’s creative benchmarks.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally for shoots.

Work Distribution

Responsibilities are clearly defined and communicated at project start:

  • The Creative Producer manages logistics, timelines, budgets, crew coordination, equipment, creative documentation, and status updates.
  • The Head of Production oversees brand creative vision, final budget approval, and overall operational control.

Performance Goals for the First Year

  • Deliver 95% of projects on schedule with appropriate post-production handoff.
  • Maintain budget accuracy within a 5% margin on 90% of projects.
  • Achieve client satisfaction rating of at least 9 out of 10 with repeat client engagements.
  • Independently manage entire productions within the first three months, confidently leading small to mid-sized projects with minimal oversight.
  • Successfully lead major director-led shoots, allowing the Head of Production to focus on brand creative strategy.

Philosophy on AI

  • AI is used to enhance and accelerate creative work without replacing storytelling and taste.
  • Prioritize clarity and quality gains over novelty when adopting AI tools.
  • Ensure brand safety by respecting rights, disclosures, and client preferences.

Diversity and Inclusion

Magnafire acknowledges Vancouver’s diverse community and is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and dynamic workplace that embraces a variety of perspectives and ideas, supporting a respectful and collaborative environment.
