Job description
Role overview
The Commercial Systems & Applications Engineer will own, maintain, and continuously improve the Morgan Body Builder (MBB) configurator. The role also supports estimating and application engineering work, with a focus on keeping product configurations accurate, protecting pricing integrity, and validating technical requests from customers. It plays an important part in speeding up quote preparation, cutting down manual estimating effort, and keeping sales, engineering, and operations aligned.
Configurator ownership
- Take responsibility for the MBB (C1 Configurator) platform and keep its product configuration, rules, and pricing up to date.
- Create and refine product logic, option frameworks, and coding so quotes are generated correctly.
- Roll out updates from engineering and estimating teams, including alpha codes, pricing revisions, and new product capabilities.
- Investigate configurator problems and provide support to both internal teams and external users.
- Look for ways to broaden configurator functionality and reduce the use of non-selectable items.
Estimating support
- Help build cost estimates and pricing for customer requirements that cannot be selected directly in MBB.
- Support the pricing of new products by using bills of material and labor standards.
- Work with the estimating team to improve quote accuracy and shorten turnaround times.
- Help preserve pricing integrity by supporting changes to pricing structures and cost assumptions.
- Assist with special pricing requests and validate costs where needed.
Application engineering and design review
- Examine configurator outputs and customer-specific designs to confirm feasibility and compliance with engineering standards.
- Assess manufacturability, performance, and safety for non-standard configurations.
- Suggest design changes or alternate solutions when a request cannot be delivered as specified.
- Coordinate with engineering and estimating teams to verify complex configurations.
Qualifications and competencies
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline is preferred. The role calls for 8+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, estimating, or product configuration. Candidates should bring strong mechanical understanding, the ability to read technical drawings, and prior exposure to configurator systems, ERP platforms, or pricing tools. The job also requires analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, systems-level thinking, attention to detail, data accuracy, and strong communication across functions. The environment is fast-paced, so adaptability and the ability to manage several priorities at once are important.
Ethics and conduct
The company expects the highest ethical standards in dealings with customers, suppliers, advisors, employees, and authorities. The selected person must ensure that their own work and the work of all team members under their control follows this expectation. The role also requires awareness of JBPCO critical standards and conduct procedures published by the company and active implementation of those policies in all areas of responsibility.
