Job Overview
Join our team as a Court Security Officer at the Hutt Valley District Court, where you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment to ensure everyone can access justice without intimidation or danger. This permanent full-time position offers a dynamic and fulfilling work environment with opportunities for growth into management or specialized roles within the Ministry of Justice.
Key Duties
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
- Conduct security screening processes and operate CCTV and electronic access control systems effectively.
- Collaborate with external agencies including Police, Corrections, lawyers, and judicial personnel to facilitate safe court proceedings.
- Patrol public areas, perform building security inspections, respond swiftly to duress alarms, and handle security, health, and safety incidents with appropriate reporting.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience in customer service, security, defence, or government sectors is preferred but not mandatory as comprehensive accredited training is provided.
- Comfortable with technology and able to operate security equipment.
- Proficiency in de-escalation techniques and physical capability to meet the standards of full-contact officer safety training.
- Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver’s license and a clean criminal record verified through police vetting.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and sensitivity towards cultural considerations, particularly Tikanga Maori, relevant to the security role and the Ministry's values.

Work Conditions
This role requires a 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with potential for paid overtime and occasional minimum 3-hour shifts on Saturdays. The primary location is Hutt Valley District Court, with occasional travel to neighboring courts, with all travel expenses covered.

Salary
