About the Role
The Ministry of Justice in New Zealand invites applications for a permanent, full-time Court Security Officer position based at the Christchurch Precinct. This role involves fostering a safe and secure environment in courts to enable individuals to access justice without fear of intimidation or violence. Officers engage daily with a diverse community, ensuring safety through various security measures and collaboration with other agencies such as Police, Corrections, lawyers, and Judicial officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
- Conduct security screenings and operate systems like CCTV and electronic access control.
- Collaborate with external agencies and stakeholders to ensure safe court operations.
- Patrol public areas, perform security checks, respond to duress alarms, and manage security and health and safety incidents.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in customer service, security, defence, or government sectors is advantageous but not required; comprehensive training will be provided.
- Proficiency with technology operations related to security systems.
- Knowledge and application of de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations.
- Physical capability to meet requirements of full-contact officer safety training.
- Possession of a full clean New Zealand driver's license and clean criminal record, including Police Vetting.
- Understanding and respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural sensitivities, particularly Tikanga Maori, relevant to the court security role.

Work Conditions
The position is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for paid overtime when additional coverage is necessary. Rostered shifts may occasionally include a minimum of three hours on Saturdays. Travel to courts in neighboring areas may be required with costs covered by the Ministry.

Remuneration
The salary range for this role is between $60,729 and $80,794 annually, with starting pay based on skills and experience.
