Counseling Outreach Officer

Overview

The Counseling Outreach Officer reports directly to the Director of the Student Counseling Center (SCC) and collaborates closely with SCC counselors and administrative staff on campus. This role focuses on coordinating outreach efforts within the university as well as extended community stakeholders to promote student physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Key Duties

• Collaborate with SCC staff to identify awareness gaps regarding the Center's services in the university community.
• Build and nurture positive partnerships with university offices, student affairs units, faculty, staff, and student groups to support SCC objectives.
• Represent the Center at various university events including New Student Orientation, faculty orientations, cultural programs, national day celebrations, and conferences.
• Plan and manage major university events such as World Health Day and World Mental Health Day working with internal and external partners.
• Engage with faculty and student organizations to increase awareness and encourage use of counseling services.
• Design and implement outreach programs and promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, and newsletters, to enhance visibility of the Center.
• Lead psycho-educational initiatives and mental health campaigns targeting stigma reduction and proactive mental wellness support.
• Maintain detailed records on outreach activities, track inquiries, and produce reports with feedback metrics.
• Manage outreach budgets and financial tracking.
• Identify and coordinate involvement of graduate and undergraduate students in outreach activities.
• Contribute to research efforts such as needs assessments and program evaluations.
• Supervise student workers assisting in outreach efforts.

Health Accommodations Responsibilities

• Oversee all health accommodation arrangements for students requiring physical or health-related support on campus.
• Collaborate with campus health clinic physicians to determine appropriate accommodations for students’ health conditions.
• Coordinate with faculty and academic departments to communicate and ensure necessary accommodations are implemented.

Work Environment and Complexity

This position operates in a dynamic, evolving environment requiring management of competing crises and maintaining strong professional relationships with diverse university and community contacts. The role demands creativity, initiative, and careful judgment to design and manage multiple simultaneous projects aligned with the counseling center’s mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in related helping professions, preferably within educational settings or a comparable mix of education and experience.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Deep understanding of UAE societal culture.
• Bilingual fluency in Arabic and English required.
