Job description
About the company
Netflix is a global entertainment platform with more than 278 million paid memberships across over 190 countries. Its members watch TV series, films, and games in many languages and genres, with the flexibility to start, stop, resume, and change plans whenever they choose.
About the role
Netflix is hiring an experienced legal counsel to join its Singapore team. This position focuses on supporting commercial deals across advertising, consumer products, and marketing or brand partnerships in Southeast Asia. The role will be based locally and report in Singapore.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of drafting, negotiating, and finalizing a broad range of B2B commercial contracts tied to Netflix’s growth initiatives in Southeast Asia, including consumer products and brand or marketing partnerships.
- Support the advertising business in Southeast Asia by preparing and negotiating agreements with agencies, advertisers, measurement vendors, and other third-party service providers.
- Act as a core legal advisor to the advertising, consumer products, and marketing/brand partnership teams, offering practical guidance on deal structure, risk sharing, permissions, sponsorship models, and emerging ad offerings.
- Interpret and explain advertising-related rules in Southeast Asia, including consumer protection, labeling requirements, promotions, and industry practices, and turn those rules into workable business advice.
- Advise on the use of Netflix intellectual property such as trademarks, logos, clips, talent likenesses, and brand assets, including the applicable approvals and limitations for commercial and marketing use.
- Work closely with regional and global legal partners to ensure local transactions fit Netflix’s wider business goals, templates, and policies while still being adapted for Southeast Asian markets.
- Help improve contract workflows, template sets, and playbooks so the business can move quickly and efficiently.
Experience and qualifications
The preferred candidate will bring 7 or more years of relevant legal experience, gained either in-house or at a leading law firm, with direct exposure to advertising, intellectual property licensing, and brand or marketing partnership work, ideally in media, entertainment, technology, or consumer-focused businesses.
This role calls for strong written and spoken communication skills, plus the ability to turn complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, practical advice for varied stakeholders. Because the position is highly cross-functional, collaboration, persuasion, and interpersonal strength are important.
Additional requirements
- Hands-on experience negotiating and managing complex B2B agreements, including advertising, sponsorship, marketing, consumer products, and other strategic partnership contracts, along with active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
- Good grasp of advertising laws and industry standards, with the ability to give compliance advice in a way that supports the business.
- Working knowledge of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyrights, and brand usage, together with experience advising on permissions, restrictions, and approvals in commercial and marketing settings.
- Strong legal judgment and analytical ability to assess risk, suggest solutions, and balance legal concerns with business goals.
- Ability to juggle several matters at once in a fast-moving environment while staying detail-oriented and meeting demanding timelines.
- Comfort working with global templates, policies, and stakeholders, and the ability to adapt advice appropriately for Southeast Asian markets.
- Curiosity and openness to learning new or changing areas, including new advertising products, technologies, and business models.
- High ethical standards, integrity, discretion, and alignment with Netflix’s culture and values.
Inclusion and accommodations
Netflix says inclusion is a core value and aims to provide a meaningful interview experience for every candidate. Candidates who need a disability-related or other adjustment during hiring can request accommodation through their recruiting contact.
Equal opportunity
The company is an equal-opportunity employer and supports diversity.
