About the Company

Northpower is a New Zealand-owned essential infrastructure firm focused on delivering energy network services and broader infrastructure solutions that support communities every day. Uniquely, it operates both electricity and fibre networks and its contracting division provides infrastructure services for prominent partners such as Transpower, Vector, and Powerco across the North Island. As it expands, Northpower is establishing a corporate finance unit to enhance the rigor behind its investment and capital deployment choices.

Role Overview – Corporate Finance Lead

This newly established position supports Northpower's Executive team, Investment Committee, and Board in investment and capital allocation decisions. Reporting to the Group Manager Finance & Planning, the role involves leading financial modeling, valuation, and strategic analyses for significant capital investments in a highly accountable and hands-on manner.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead development of financial models and valuations such as DCF, NPV, IRR, and WACC for major capital projects and business cases.
  • Assess investment prospects with recommendations on prioritisation, timing, and sequencing.
  • Maintain and develop the group's long-term strategic, financial, and pricing models.
  • Perform scenario analyses, stress testing, and Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate risks and value drivers.
  • Create a capital allocation model that links EBITDA volatility, portfolio risk, and strategic goals.
  • Keep key financial assumptions and metrics like WACC and credit indicators current.
  • Produce high-quality reports and analyses for the Executive, Investment Committee, and Board.
  • Monitor relevant sector, market, and regulatory trends affecting investment decisions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as CFA, CA, CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience in corporate finance, investment analysis, or strategy, ideally in infrastructure, utilities, banking, or consulting sectors.
  • Proficient in advanced financial modeling and valuation techniques including DCF, WACC, and capital allocation frameworks.
  • Skilled in directly and confidently engaging with senior executives.
  • Experience conducting scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and probabilistic forecasting.
  • Ability to simplify complex analyses into clear, commercially-oriented recommendations.

Benefits and Opportunity

This role offers direct access and collaboration with senior leadership and executives, providing ownership over complex modeling and analytical projects that influence Northpower’s most critical capital decisions.
