Job description

Role Overview

The Service Continuity Coordinator in Medical Affairs holds a crucial position responsible for analyzing risks that may affect physician service delivery within a defined geographical region, then devising and managing plans to safeguard continuous physician coverage. This role involves close collaboration with the area Operations team to monitor issues such as staffing shortages, medical on-call schedules, supply and maintenance challenges, and crisis situations. Anticipating service interruptions and creating tactical responses to mitigate these is a key responsibility. Additionally, the Coordinator supports initiatives aimed at improving the quality and safety of medical service delivery aligned with organizational goals.

Key Duties

  • Manage physician on-call schedules and identify potential gaps in coverage.
  • Liaise with Medical Leadership to obtain locum tenens coverage when necessary.
  • Develop contingency workforce plans to address service disruptions effectively.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with provincial leaders to coordinate response plans maximizing physician workforce availability during disruptions.
  • Continuously seek process improvements within Medical Affairs workflows to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain awareness of site staffing, supply, and maintenance issues impacting service delivery.
  • Support onboarding and orientation processes for new physicians.
  • Possess thorough understanding of local communities and healthcare service demands.

Additional Information

  • Position is classified as Coordinator, exempt union status.
  • Located primarily at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
  • Eligible for hybrid working arrangements within Alberta's South Zone.
  • Regular full-time employment with a 1.0 FTE.
  • Work schedule consists of two-week rotation cycles, 10 shifts per cycle, 7.75 hours per shift, daytime pattern with weekends off.
  • Vehicle not required for this role.
  • Salary range: $31.64 to $54.36 per hour.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, business, or a related discipline is required.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of a high school diploma plus at least four years of progressively responsible related experience may be considered.
  • Desired qualifications include formal training in change management, project management, and quality improvement.
  • Relevant diplomas or other post-secondary credentials are advantageous.
  • Prior experience working directly in Medical Affairs or closely supporting physicians is a strong asset.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of Alberta Health Services systems, policies, legislation, and general office procedures.
  • Proficient with office software, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, for communication, correspondence, and responding to requests.
  • Familiarity with financial management policies, FOIP legislation, and human resource information systems.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Awareness of political sensitivities and interests among diverse stakeholders.
