Job description

Overview

This role requires preparing and cooking meals, managing kitchen operations, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards in a restaurant setting. The position is on-site with no remote work option, based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

Languages and Education

  • Completion of Secondary (high) school education

Experience

A minimum of 2 years but less than 3 years of relevant experience in cooking or kitchen operations is required.

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate food portion sizes and the associated costs.
  • Plan menus and estimate food quantities needed for preparation.
  • Request food and kitchen supply orders.
  • Prepare and cook entire meals or individual dishes as required.
  • Cater to customers with specific food allergies or intolerances.
  • Prepare specialized meals for patients according to dietitian or chef instructions.
  • Inspect kitchen and dining areas to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Order kitchen supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Oversee and supervise kitchen staff and assistants.
  • Maintain inventory and accurate records for food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure cleanliness of kitchen and workspaces.
  • Manage day-to-day kitchen operations effectively.
