Job description

Overview

This permanent full-time position located onsite in Upper Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand, offers competitive remuneration along with benefits. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The role belongs to the Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) and focuses on supporting contractors and internal teams to ensure compliant and efficient work processes that meet KPIs and optimize manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership by anticipating and resolving complex work requests to ensure safe job executions.
  • Continuously review and improve processes, procedures, safety standards, and quality controls within the designated technical area.
  • Conduct contractor inductions and facilitate maintenance, project, and production tasks including confined space entries and capital project support.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), corporate policies, and legal requirements.
  • Manage the approval and issuance of permits in accordance with company and WorkSafe New Zealand standards.
  • Complete monthly audits, maintain KPIs, and manage training records for engineering staff and contractors.
  • Operate and administer staff and contractor management systems such as Totara and ePass.
  • Update and communicate site procedures related to contractor management and permitting.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance to staff and contractors to promote safe working practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • National Certificate, Trade Qualification, Diploma or equivalent in Engineering, Maintenance, Health & Safety, or Industrial Operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation, contractor management, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Experience managing high-risk work permits, conducting inductions, identifying risks, performing audits and inspections in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and manage stakeholders.
  • Strong administrative skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, animal health, food, or chemical manufacturing.
  • Skills in report and investigation writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with GMP/GLP or ISO 9000 standards is advantageous.
