Job description

Position Overview

A premier tertiary care hospital in Dubai is looking to appoint a seasoned Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist to lead and manage its Pediatric Cardiac ICU. This role demands comprehensive critical care management expertise for neonates, infants, and children with both congenital and acquired cardiac conditions, handling cases involving pre- and post-operative cardiac surgeries, interventional cardiology, and complex cardiac emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver full-spectrum critical care for pediatric cardiac patients encompassing pre-operative stabilization and optimization, postoperative care following congenital heart surgeries, and management during interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Handle conditions such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiomyopathies utilizing advanced support techniques including ECMO, mechanical ventilation, and sophisticated hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Lead multidisciplinary PCICU rounds and coordinate patient care plans effectively.
  • Analyze and act on complex diagnostic data including echocardiography, hemodynamics, and imaging.
  • Maintain readiness to provide on-call pediatric cardiac emergency care.
  • Contribute strategically to expand and enhance the Pediatric Cardiac ICU services by developing clinical pathways, protocols, and quality improvement measures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams comprising pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and nursing staff.
  • Guide and mentor junior doctors, fellows, and critical care nurses.
  • Engage compassionately with patients' families, delivering clear clinical explanations and supporting decision-making, long-term care, and discharge planning.
  • Promote a family-centered care culture within the ICU.
  • Participate in clinical research, audits, quality improvement initiatives, and academic teaching involving medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Contribute to continuing medical education activities and represent the department at relevant conferences.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Medical qualification (MD or MBBS) from an accredited institute.
  • Board certification in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Cardiology, or Pediatric Anesthesiology with specialized fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care.
  • At least 8 to 10 years of post-specialization experience including substantial consultant-level work in a busy cardiac center.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex congenital heart diseases and postoperative cardiac ICU care.
  • Eligibility to obtain Dubai Health Authority Consultant licensure.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and team collaboration capabilities.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic considered beneficial.
