Role Overview
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is searching for a skilled Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon to join the specialist Maxillofacial Surgery department at Christchurch Hospital. This position involves delivering expert clinical care across a wide variety of Maxillofacial surgery cases within a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive Maxillofacial clinical services including outpatient clinics, operating theatre sessions, inpatient care, and acute/on-call duties.
- Engage in a structured 1:3 on-call rotation to ensure continuous, patient-centered care.
- Contribute to education by mentoring and supporting Registrars, House Officers, Medical Students, Nursing, and Allied Health professionals.
- Participate actively in research and continuous service development to elevate treatment standards.

Candidate Profile
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Dental Council and Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Demonstrated expertise in general Maxillofacial Surgery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration in a multidisciplinary context.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, quality improvement, education, and research.
- Ability to manage complex clinical workloads and prioritize effectively.
