Job description
Role Overview
This position involves providing comprehensive medical care virtually to adult and pediatric patients, specializing in diabetology as part of family medicine. The consultant will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care of diabetes and related metabolic conditions, besides managing acute and chronic ailments. Emphasis is on evidence-based, patient-centered services with multidisciplinary cooperation, prioritizing prevention, early intervention, chronic condition management, and continuity.
Patient Consultations and Care
- Deliver full telemedicine care including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for diabetes, metabolic, and other health issues.
- Execute detailed clinical assessments covering medical history, virtual physical exams, medication analysis, risk evaluations, and diagnostic interpretation.
- Create personalized evidence-based treatment plans targeting glycemic control, medication adjustment, lifestyle changes, preventive care, and specialist referrals as necessary.
- Manage various diabetes types, prediabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders, while addressing complications and associated conditions.
- Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure integrated, patient-focused treatment.
- Leverage digital health and telemedicine technologies for safe, high-quality virtual care while maintaining accurate clinical records.
- Promote initiatives in preventive care, chronic disease management, population health, and value-based medicine to improve outcomes and resource efficiency.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Effectively communicate with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment choices, and follow-up care.
- Adhere strictly to medical regulations, ethical standards, and telehealth quality assurances.
- Maintain updated knowledge on telehealth rules and best practices; engage in quality improvement and accurate clinical documentation.
- Participate in research, clinical audits, and quality initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Review compliance protocols and partake in related training; collaborate with compliance officers to meet regulations.
- Prepare thorough audit and inspection reports, staying current with healthcare regulation changes and implementing required adjustments.
Professional Development
- Continuously update expertise in family medicine and diabetology along with telehealth best practices.
- Attend relevant medical conferences, workshops, and online education to stay informed on latest developments.
Telehealth Platform Expertise
- Maintain comprehensive and HIPAA-compliant patient records.
- Demonstrate proficiency in telehealth platforms including video conferencing, secure messaging, and integrated electronic health records.
- Engage in platform training and collaborate with IT to resolve technical challenges.
Patient Safety and Satisfaction
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards to protect patients in virtual consultations.
- Report safety risks to quality departments promptly.
- Practice safe medicine minimizing patient harm; educate patients on medications, side effects, and proper usage.
- Maintain empathetic, thorough consultations including history taking, diagnosis explanation, management planning, and addressing patient questions.
- Monitor and respond to patient feedback to uphold high satisfaction levels.
- Implement safety protocols and train healthcare staff accordingly; use patient surveys for continuous improvement.
Collaboration with Healthcare Teams
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care delivery.
- Provide insights and guidance to support patient-focused care strategies.
- Facilitate communications among team members about patient status and requirements.
- Mentor junior professionals and offer clinical protocol training.
Qualifications and Skills
- Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of Family Medicine residency training from an accredited program.
- Board certification in Family Medicine.
- Fellowship qualification in Diabetology.
- Registration and classification by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as a Family Medicine Diabetology Consultant.
- Proven experience in a similar consultant role, ideally in clinical or hospital settings.
- Experience with population health management and value-based care models.
- Proficient with electronic medical records and telemedicine technology.
- Strong clinical judgment, analytical thinking, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a fast-paced environment effectively with multiple priorities.
- Dedication to continual professional growth and staying current with medical advances in family medicine and diabetology.
