Job description
About the opportunity
Boliden Tara Mines is offering a structured apprenticeship for someone who wants to build a practical career while earning and learning. The role is based at Navan, County Meath, Ireland, and is designed for people who enjoy solving problems, working with technology, and understanding how complex machinery operates.
The apprenticeship supports the work of a company focused on supplying metals that help society develop over the long term. The organisation is guided by the principles of Care, Courage and Responsibility, and aims to be recognised as the world’s most climate-friendly and respected metal provider.
On completion of the programme, successful apprentices will earn a QQI Advanced Certificate – Level 6, a qualification that is recognised across a wide range of industries.
What you will do and learn
Construction plant fitters contribute to the upkeep and reliability of mobile plant and equipment used in mining operations. With support from experienced mentors, you will learn how these machines function and why safe working, quality standards and teamwork matter in daily operations.
- Identify mechanical and equipment faults and carry out repairs on mobile plant and related machinery
- Carry out regular servicing and preventive maintenance so equipment stays safe and efficient
- Complete inspections and safety checks in accordance with mining rules and site procedures
- Work with modern maintenance technology and systems, including the CMMS platform Maximo
- Build practical fault-finding and problem-solving capability through hands-on repair work
Support and development
The apprenticeship includes technical training, competitive pay and strong support as your abilities grow. You will join a safety-led, inclusive team and work alongside skilled craftspeople who will coach you, build your confidence and encourage ongoing learning.
- Receive guidance and coaching throughout the apprenticeship
- Develop confidence in technical and practical skills
- Be encouraged to ask questions and keep learning
Entry requirements
- You must be 18 years of age or older
- A Leaving Certificate is required, with at least five Ordinary Level passes including English and Maths
Working pattern
The role runs for 39 hours each week, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is needed depending on operational requirements. The apprenticeship combines on-the-job learning with off-site training in a structured format.
Career prospects
Beyond the qualification, this apprenticeship is intended as the beginning of a long-term career. Graduates may progress within the site and across the wider Boliden Group, where the skills gained are valued both in Ireland and internationally.
Inclusion and application notes
Boliden Tara Mines is committed to creating a workplace where women and men feel welcome, supported and able to succeed. Applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds, including those who may not have previously considered a career in Electrical Instrumentation. Candidates who are interested but unsure whether they meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply.
The application closing date is 19 June 2026. Current Boliden employees are asked not to apply through this route and should instead use their Workday account and the Find Jobs section.
