Role summary
This full-time, on-site position in Edmonton, Alberta is for a Construction Materials Tester who will assess and inspect materials used in construction to confirm they meet project requirements and applicable standards. The position centers on field sampling, lab-based testing, result recording, and sharing findings with project leads and engineers.
Key duties
- Collect samples from active construction sites for testing and analysis.
- Carry out laboratory and field checks on materials such as soil, concrete, and asphalt.
- Compare test outcomes against project specifications and industry requirements.
- Prepare clear documentation and test reports based on the results obtained.
- Communicate observations and conclusions to engineers and project managers.
- Look after testing tools and equipment to keep them in proper working order.
- Follow site safety procedures and help maintain an efficient workflow on location.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant should have hands-on experience working with construction materials testing, along with a solid understanding of geotechnical and environmental engineering concepts. Strong reporting, communication, organization, and detail-focused work habits are important. The role also calls for the ability to work alone or with others in changing site conditions, plus a valid driver’s license for travel to job sites.
Qualifications
- Prior experience testing or inspecting soil, concrete, asphalt, or similar construction materials.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical and environmental engineering principles.
- Ability to record findings accurately and prepare professional reports.
- Comfort with following safety rules and compliance standards on construction sites.
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to construction locations.
- Construction materials testing certifications are considered an advantage.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
