Job description
Overview
Powerco is hiring a permanent full-time Connections & Low Voltage Planning Manager to help shape the future of its electricity network. The role can be based in New Plymouth, Palmerston North, or Tauranga. As more homes, businesses, renewable generation, and new technologies connect to the grid, this position plays a key part in keeping network planning and customer connections aligned with future demand.
Role purpose
You will lead a specialist team focused on two core priorities: helping customers connect to the network in a clear and efficient way, and planning the low voltage network so it can support growth over time. The position brings together customer needs, planning insight, and emerging technology to influence how the network develops.
Key responsibilities
- Direct the Connections & Low Voltage Planning function across Powerco.
- Make sure connection enquiries and requests are handled consistently, transparently, and efficiently.
- Work in close partnership with Customer Delivery Services, Development Planning, Asset Management, and Delivery teams to remove blockers and improve outcomes.
- Use information from the LV visibility platform, GridSight, to better understand available capacity and likely future constraints.
- Contribute to investment decisions that support network growth.
- Respond to changing industry expectations and regulatory obligations.
- Lead ongoing improvement initiatives, capability building, and overall team performance.
- Develop productive working relationships with customers, developers, consultants, and other industry stakeholders.
What success looks like
- Customers experience more certainty and openness when connecting to the network.
- Connection processes are streamlined, scalable, and focused on customer needs.
- Low voltage constraints are detected earlier and managed proactively.
- Investment choices are guided by stronger data and better visibility of future demand.
- Customer growth, network planning, and investment decisions remain closely aligned.
Candidate profile
Powerco is looking for an experienced electricity industry professional with a mix of technical knowledge, leadership strength, and commercial judgment. The ideal person will be comfortable balancing customer priorities, technical requirements, and business considerations.
Why Powerco
Powerco offers a collaborative environment that values innovation, continuous improvement, and teamwork in solving complex network challenges. This is an opportunity to influence decisions that directly affect the future of the network and the customer experience.
