We are expanding internationally and seek a Compliance Director in Australia to lead our compliance and risk efforts locally, playing a vital role in our growth within the digital asset industry.
Role Overview
As the senior compliance executive in Australia, you will oversee AFSL responsibilities, manage regulatory relationships, and uphold high standards in governance, financial crime prevention, and risk management. Collaborating closely with senior leaders and global compliance teams across multiple regions, you will influence regulatory strategies and enable business expansion in an evolving landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Compliance Director for Zodia Custody Australia, shaping the regulatory strategy and ensuring compliance with AFSL, ASIC, AUSTRAC, and internal standards.
- Maintain and foster partnerships with Australian regulators and industry stakeholders.
- Provide strategic compliance counsel to support product innovation and market growth.
- Fulfill the role of the Australian Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), supervising AML, sanctions, and financial crime controls.
- Lead suspicious matter reporting, transaction monitoring, blockchain analytics, and investigations to strengthen anti-financial crime frameworks.
- Develop and sustain comprehensive bank-grade compliance and risk systems including AML, fraud prevention, anti-bribery, data privacy, conflict of interest, and enterprise risk management.
- Chair local risk committees and governance groups; prepare reports for executives and board members.
- Ensure compliance of custody platform controls like asset segregation, key management, and third-party risk, maintaining operational resilience.
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends to proactively adjust compliance approaches.
- Promote a culture emphasizing risk awareness and compliance, delivering training and guidance throughout the organization.
Candidate Profile
You are a seasoned compliance expert residing in Australia, comfortable traveling weekly to the NSW office and experienced in navigating complex regulatory challenges within highly regulated environments.
Essential Qualifications
- Extensive leadership in compliance within Australian AFSL-licensed financial services firms.
- Proven success in building, implementing, and managing compliance frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of ASIC, AUSTRAC, and related regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing high-level regulatory relationships and engagement.
- Strong financial crime compliance background covering AML, sanctions, KYC, and investigations.
- Expertise in risk management and governance with excellent stakeholder communication skills.
- Aptitude for balancing compliance rigor with business practicality.
Preferred Experience
- Background in digital assets, cryptocurrency, fintech, or emerging financial services sectors.
- Familiarity with institutional custody operations and blockchain analytics or transaction monitoring technologies.
