Role overview
Africa World Airlines Limited is hiring a Compensation and Benefits Specialist based in Accra. The position is focused on building, improving, and managing compensation, benefits, and related employee value programmes while keeping them aligned with business goals and local compliance requirements.
Compensation and benefits management
- Lead the creation, rollout, and day-to-day administration of pay and benefits programmes.
- Review existing compensation and benefits practices on an ongoing basis and suggest practical improvements that are financially sound and aligned with market trends and organisational objectives.
- Advise employees on pay-related decisions, policy interpretation, and job evaluation matters.
- Develop tailored solutions for compensation initiatives and incentive plans.
- Manage salary survey activities and use survey findings to support corporate pay and benefits objectives.
- Ensure all pay practices comply with local compensation laws and regulations.
- Carry out job analysis to determine role classification and appropriate salary bands.
- Compare roles against survey data and other market information to keep pay and benefits ranges competitive.
- Partner with insurance brokers and investment planners to design cost-effective and attractive benefits packages, and support implementation and enrolment for insurance and retirement schemes.
Competencies and skills
- Solid understanding of local compensation and benefits laws, regulations, and compliance obligations.
- Working knowledge of compensation rules covering base pay, incentive pay, company policies, and operational requirements.
- Strong analytical ability with the capacity to interpret and explain data clearly.
- Comfort using Microsoft tools, especially Excel, and other business software.
- Ability to present the organisation’s value proposition persuasively.
- Confident leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent spoken and written communication, supported by marketing ability.
- Strong stakeholder handling skills, including interaction with senior management.
- Good customer service, negotiation, and cross-level employee engagement skills.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise, multitask, and manage time effectively.
- Professional integrity, reliability, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
CSR responsibilities
- Design and implement a corporate social responsibility approach that supports the company’s business strategy, employee volunteering, and responsible-citizenship goals.
- Develop and execute the company’s CSR strategy and manage the charitable giving budget effectively.
- Serve as the main contact for CSR initiatives in the community and build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.
- Encourage employee volunteering in coordination with internal teams.
- Collaborate with Marketing and PR to support internal engagement and storytelling efforts.
- Create policies related to ethical, environmental, and sustainability responsibilities.
- Help ensure the organisation makes a positive contribution to communities and the environment.
- Promote the company’s CSR commitments publicly through marketing channels.
- Build partnerships with clients, employees, suppliers, charities, and other relevant groups.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, human resources, or a related discipline, along with five years of steadily increasing experience in employee compensation.
- At least one year of experience supervising or managing subordinates.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is required.
- Professional compensation credentials are preferred.
- A master’s degree in Human Resource Management is an advantage.
- Demonstrated leadership, continuous professional development, and HR training are expected.
- Membership in a recognised HR professional body will be considered an added advantage.
