Job description

Role Overview

Spectrum Care is seeking a full-time Residential Community Support Worker in South Auckland. This position is 40 hours per week and offers pay in the range of $23.97 to $29.68 per hour. The organisation supports adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities so they can live fulfilling lives.

What the Role Involves

In this position, your work will vary based on each person’s needs, goals, and preferences. You will help with personal activities such as taking part in the community, social interaction, attending work or education, and managing everyday living tasks.

  • A genuine understanding of the challenges involved in building an ordinary life while living with a disability
  • Enough energy to keep pace with someone who is highly active
  • The ability to stay composed and help others remain calm in difficult situations
  • Resilience and good boundary-setting skills to support people’s safety
  • Strong communication, including the ability to explain ideas clearly and negotiate respectfully
  • The confidence to communicate supportively with family members, coworkers, and the person you support
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and everyday living support, while motivating the person to stay engaged
  • Clear and fluent spoken and written English is essential for consideration

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • An interest in completing a Community Support Worker Level 3 qualification or higher, with training support available while employed
  • Previous experience supporting people with disabilities, mental health needs, or challenging behaviour is helpful but not required
  • A dependable attitude, commitment to the role, and enthusiasm for working with people
  • A current full New Zealand driver licence
  • Ability to pass a New Zealand police check
  • Competence using a computer, including Word, web browsers, and email

Immigration / Non-Resident Requirements

Applicants who are not New Zealand residents must meet INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered. This means either:

  • At least 3 years of experience in the care workforce, with pay at or above the care workforce wage rate during that period; or
  • A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF), which must be at least Level 4 for a skill level 3 role, or a diploma for a skill level 2 role.
