Job description
Role Overview
Ventia is looking for an experienced Communications Technician – Inside Plant to help maintain essential infrastructure on the power network. The role is centred on low-voltage power systems and communications equipment operating in controlled environments.
Key Duties
- Carry out installation and commissioning work for low-voltage DC power systems, including battery checks and ongoing maintenance.
- Set up and commission transmission platforms such as OTN, MPLS, SDH, and PDH.
- Test and commission inside plant communications hardware.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in communications and DC power systems.
- Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
- Read, interpret, and update technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
- Work at heights is an advantage.
- Electrical registration is an advantage.
About You
You should be a technically strong, safety-conscious professional with background experience in telecommunications, power, or other critical infrastructure settings.
What You’ll Bring
- Practical experience installing and commissioning low-voltage power plant.
- Working knowledge of battery systems and related testing methods.
- Exposure to protection systems would be beneficial.
- Proven hands-on capability with fibre installation and splicing.
- Strong analytical thinking and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to perform ladder work and maintain good physical fitness.
- A cooperative approach and a consistent focus on safety.
