Job description

Role Overview

Ventia is looking for an experienced Communications Technician – Inside Plant to help maintain essential infrastructure on the power network. The role is centred on low-voltage power systems and communications equipment operating in controlled environments.

Key Duties

  • Carry out installation and commissioning work for low-voltage DC power systems, including battery checks and ongoing maintenance.
  • Set up and commission transmission platforms such as OTN, MPLS, SDH, and PDH.
  • Test and commission inside plant communications hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in communications and DC power systems.
  • Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
  • Read, interpret, and update technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Work at heights is an advantage.
  • Electrical registration is an advantage.

About You

You should be a technically strong, safety-conscious professional with background experience in telecommunications, power, or other critical infrastructure settings.

What You’ll Bring

  • Practical experience installing and commissioning low-voltage power plant.
  • Working knowledge of battery systems and related testing methods.
  • Exposure to protection systems would be beneficial.
  • Proven hands-on capability with fibre installation and splicing.
  • Strong analytical thinking and fault-finding skills.
  • Ability to perform ladder work and maintain good physical fitness.
  • A cooperative approach and a consistent focus on safety.
