Job description
Position Overview
The Communications, Events and Engagement Lead is tasked with developing and implementing yearly communications and engagement strategies that align with the vision, mission, and strategic goals of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). This role acts as the primary liaison for the annual conference and collaborates closely with staff, board members, members, and volunteers to expand TRO's reach and enhance its impact.
Key Objectives
- Highlight the benefits and value of TRO membership
- Ensure communications with members and stakeholders are timely, precise, and professional
- Employ various communication platforms for consistent and engaging member interaction
- Raise awareness among members, employers, educators, government bodies, and other stakeholders about Therapeutic Recreation, the association, the designation, and TRO's research initiatives
Primary Responsibilities
- Create, source, and manage content for diverse media outlets, including e-newsletters, website, social media, marketing collateral, and presentations
- Serve as the lead organizer for the annual conference
- Develop marketing initiatives to position TRO as the key professional body for Therapeutic Recreation practitioners
- Deliver exceptional customer service with prompt and professional responses to members, partners, and the community
- Lead the Education Institution Partnership program, including delivering presentations at post-secondary schools as needed
- Coordinate and develop e-learning offerings related to Therapeutic Recreation such as webinars and video lectures
- Act as a brand ambassador representing TRO at trade exhibitions and conferences when required
- Ensure consistent branding throughout all marketing and public relations materials
- Promote TRO’s designation program to prospective members, members, and employers
- Provide communications assistance to TRO committees
- Contribute collaboratively to the overall effectiveness of the team
- Perform additional duties as necessary
Work Conditions
- As TRO operates virtually, a dedicated home office is essential
- Work schedule is typically four days a week (Monday to Thursday) from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, or as agreed with the Executive Director
- Total of 28 working hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend hours
- Salary ranges between $53,000 and $55,000 per year, dependent on experience, with annual reviews
- Provision of laptop and phone allowance
- A valid driver’s license is required due to some travel obligations
Required Skills and Qualifications
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a comparable field
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
- Understanding of Therapeutic Recreation either through education or lived experience
- Strong interpersonal skills facilitating effective workplace relationships
- Self-motivated, detail-focused, and highly organized
- Proven project management capabilities
- Excellent judgement, diplomacy, and tact in professional interactions
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks at once and shift priorities as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word Suite and Google Drive
- Experience managing social media campaigns on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Familiarity with tools like WordPress, Canva, MailChimp, or Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous
