Job Summary

The Commercial Underwriter will assess and approve insurance cases within agreed guidelines and risk tolerances, working under senior supervision. Tasks include decision-making on underwriting, escalating complex cases, supporting senior colleagues, assisting in policy wording reviews, and managing customer relations. This desk-based role requires strong analytical, communication, and relationship management skills. The position is located in Galway or Dublin offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze assigned cases and make underwriting decisions within authority limits and established risk appetite.
  • Identify and escalate complex or atypical risks to qualified team members for proper assessment.
  • Assist senior underwriters in managing non-standard or more challenging cases according to guidelines.
  • Provide efficient, courteous, and timely customer service to maintain high satisfaction levels.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policies throughout underwriting activities.
  • Contribute to team productivity and support operational efficiency.
  • Engage in project work and additional duties as assigned within the role's scope.

Candidate Requirements

  • Between three to five years of experience within the insurance sector.
  • Possession of CIP, ACII, or similar recognized insurance qualifications.
  • Fulfillment of annual Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements per relevant regulatory or professional bodies.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Experience in customer management or technical teams, including leadership or mentorship responsibilities.
