Job description

About the Role

This position focuses on independently verifying commercial figures reported by entities, ensuring alignment with underlying source documentation. It acts as the initial defense line to detect possible financial losses, uncaptured earned-value gaps, and aging receivables early, allowing leadership to intervene promptly. The role specializes in safeguarding revenue by spotting commercial risks before they translate into unanticipated financial impacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate cash flow, work in progress (WIP), and collection statuses per prioritized project by cross-referencing source documents beyond face-value acceptance.
  • Detect uncertified earned value resulting from internal submission errors instead of legitimate client disputes.
  • Record commercial and contractual exposures within the EPMO Tasks & Issues Log.
  • Alert promptly when a reported figure changes significantly between review cycles without adequate explanation.

Industry Knowledge Needed

  • Proficient understanding of IPC certification cycles, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) frameworks, variation orders, claims, and cost-value reconciliation processes.
  • Comprehensive grasp of GCOC/FIDIC contract principles, enabling evaluation of notices, rejections, or dispute correspondence for commercial validity.
  • Insight into Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) methods from a contractor's perspective, including recognizing factors driving sub-par cost performance and crafting credible recovery strategies.
  • Solid comprehension of WIP fundamentals, distinguishing genuinely disputed client work from completed work pending certification submission.
  • Familiarity with receivables aging and collections, differentiating authentic payment or liquidity issues from backlogs in certification.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience within construction commercial or quantity surveying roles on the contractor side.
  • Demonstrated involvement in main contractor or PMO commercial teams for major projects, preferably with international or multi-entity delivery experience.
  • Proven ability to actively improve WIP, collection efficiency, or cash flow on ongoing projects or portfolios rather than only reporting metrics.
  • Comfortable managing operations across multiple currencies and jurisdictions due to the international project scope.
  • Specific construction industry experience is mandatory; this role is not suited for individuals without sector-specific expertise.
