Role Overview
The Commercial and Business Investment Analyst plays a pivotal role in enhancing how the organisation evaluates and governs expenditure and investment decisions. Collaborating closely with senior leadership and multiple departments—including Operations, Property, Technology, and People & Culture—this position champions an evidence-driven, disciplined approach to decision-making and value realization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and embed a consistent business case framework complete with templates, standards, and guidance.
- Coach managers to prepare thorough business cases for projects, initiatives, and investments.
- Employ robust commercial acumen to critically assess assumptions and clearly articulate problems, options, financial impacts, operational needs, risks, and anticipated benefits.
- Create dynamic financial models and explore innovative ways to improve service delivery.
- Partner with Commercial Finance to assist with project setup, budgeting, reporting, and benefits tracking for funded initiatives, ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Contribute to enhancing process workflows, governance controls, and overall decision quality.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills and rapidly adapt to new systems while managing data analysis tasks.
- Support occasional travel requirements, with the role based primarily in Auckland.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in preparing high-quality business cases, investment proposals, or commercial decision support documents.
- Strong expertise in financial modelling techniques such as cost-benefit analysis, sensitivity analysis, and scenario planning.
- Ability to simplify complex information into straightforward recommendations for both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Skilled in creating templates, frameworks, and process improvements to ensure consistent and high-quality decision-making.
- Detail-focused, analytical, and inquisitive with a constructive approach to challenging existing practices.
- Excellent relationship-building skills to work effectively with diverse teams and leadership levels.
- Highly organised, proactive, and capable of prioritising multiple tasks efficiently.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and aptitude for quickly learning new software.
Preferred Experience
- Background in aged care, healthcare, social infrastructure, or service-focused industries.
- Experience with project governance, project management office (PMO) processes, or benefits realisation frameworks.
- Knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools.
- Training or formal qualifications in project management, business case development, or continuous improvement methodologies.
