About Horizon School

The Opportunity
Horizon School is looking for an enthusiastic College Teacher to join its Years 9–13 team. In this role, learning is intended to be meaningful, authentic, and engaging. Students take part in the school’s special character and experience connected, enriched courses that use NCEA as a pathway to deeper learning.
The role involves helping students understand how their studies link to real-life situations and future pathways, including university, business, trades, and employment, through a curriculum tailored to their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and deliver engaging, Christ-centred lessons that connect classroom learning with practical, real-world situations.
- Teach within your subject specialty using creative, learner-focused methods.
- Guide students toward NCEA achievement while also encouraging deeper understanding.
- Develop positive relationships with students, whānau, and the broader school community.
- Help strengthen the school’s Christian identity by authentically weaving faith into learning.
- Offer pastoral support and mentoring that contributes to each student’s overall wellbeing and development.
- Work closely with the College team to provide integrated learning experiences.
About You

Essential Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a subject relevant to the teaching area.
- A Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary), or an equivalent qualification.
- A current practising teacher certificate.
- Alignment with Christian education and the school’s special character.
- Solid understanding of NCEA assessment and curriculum.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Desirable Qualities
- Background in innovative, integrated curriculum delivery.
- Knowledge of future-oriented teaching approaches.
- Interest in linking learning to practical, real-world applications.
- Commitment to pastoral care and youth development.
- Industry links or experience related to your teaching subject.
