About the Role
The College Admissions Consultant collaborates closely with students and their families throughout high school, providing personalized guidance to confidently manage the college application and admissions journey. This professional helps students develop tailored admissions plans that integrate both academic achievement and extracurricular involvement, assisting in selecting colleges aligned with their academic interests, career goals, and personal preferences. The consultant offers expert assistance in preparing application materials such as essays, resumes, and interview preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in one-on-one strategic sessions with students starting from 9th grade to analyze academic records, extracurricular pursuits, career goals, and personal objectives to design individualized college admissions strategies enhancing their competitive edge.
- Keep consistent and transparent communication with students and parents to ensure clarity and alignment of admissions targets and progress.
- Perform thorough research to curate a well-rounded college list, balancing reach, target, and safety schools that fit the student's academic profile, preferences, and financial considerations.
- Support students in brainstorming, drafting, and polishing compelling personal statements and supplemental essays to strengthen their applications.
- Oversee application timelines and provide detailed advice to guarantee timely and accurate completion of applications while emphasizing students' accomplishments.
- Advise on course selections, standardized testing options (SAT, ACT, etc.), and extracurricular activities to boost application strength.
- Review and enhance student resumes to clearly highlight significant skills, experiences, and achievements.
- Prepare students for college interviews with mock sessions and actionable feedback.
- Stay informed on current trends and evolving criteria in college admissions to offer the most pertinent recommendations.
Additional Duties
- Participate in webinars to broaden outreach to students and parents, enhancing the organization's reputation as a trusted education consulting resource.
- Deliver consulting on curriculum development, counselor training, product strategy, and content creation to ensure educational products meet industry standards and student needs.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Brings at least 5 years of professional experience in college counseling, whether at a firm or independently, with deep knowledge of the application process and enthusiasm for admission trends.
- Exhibits strong communication skills and the ability to engage various audiences effectively.
- Demonstrates resourcefulness and initiative, capable of working autonomously and adapting to online platforms and systems.
- Self-driven with excellent time management skills and a genuine passion for supporting student success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Five or more years of experience providing college counseling.
- Comprehensive knowledge of admissions requirements, financial aid, scholarships, and academic planning.
- Strong ability in communication, presentations, and meeting facilitation.
- Exceptional writing skills for effective student and family communication and essay editing.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple students and track application progress effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or related field.
- Demonstrated success in assisting multiple students gaining admission to highly selective colleges.
- Experience in college admissions offices, ideally at highly selective institutions.
- International admissions experience.
- Authorization to work in the United States is required.
Compensation
The starting hourly rate for individual advising sessions is $100. Final salary depends on multiple factors including role level, candidate skills, experience, and education.
Location
This is a full-time remote position based anywhere in the United States.
