Job description
About ThirtyEight Capital
ThirtyEight Capital functions as a venture-building and investment platform dedicated to creating scalable and profitable enterprises within extensive, fragmented markets. Rather than offering passive funding, the firm collaborates closely with exceptional ones from the outset, assisting in idea validation, business model formulation, and company creation from the ground up. The focus is on sound foundational business practices prioritizing clear customer value, operational excellence, efficient distribution channels, and early profitability pathways rather than pursuing aggressive growth strategies.
The firm targets sectors where practical execution holds greater significance than hype, including energy and climate, local services, healthcare and consumer services, real estate, and vertical software and operations. These industries are often highly fragmented and operationally inefficient, providing compelling opportunities to build strong and long-lasting businesses.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
ThirtyEight Capital seeks entrepreneurial-minded individuals interested in co-creating companies in the energy and climate domain. This is not a traditional role with fixed responsibilities. Instead, candidates will partner to identify, validate, and construct scalable, profitable ventures from start-up stages, exploring areas such as heating and heat pump ecosystems, energy financing models, SME-focused climate solutions, installation and service infrastructure, energy optimization, 'Energy as a Service' models, and building technology modernization.
Candidates might already have insights into market inefficiencies, be developing personal ideas or theses, possess relevant industry experience, or be searching for an ideal partnership framework to launch a company. Together, participants will investigate market opportunities, validate business models, develop operational strategies, generate initial commercial traction, and potentially launch new ventures.
The approach adopted emphasizes creating durable businesses founded on operational excellence, effective customer acquisition, clear unit economics, and a prompt path to profitability, diverging from growth-at-all-costs paradigms to focus on long-term value creation.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience or background in energy, HVAC, or heating sectors;
- Keen understanding or involvement in installation, operations, or field services;
- Commercial or sales-related experience;
- Entrepreneurial or startup exposure;
- Strong operational focus and mindset;
- Technical knowledge of energy systems;
- Entrepreneurial potential with a strong ownership mentality and excellent execution skills;
- Curiosity, initiative, and capacity to work effectively in uncertain environments;
- Willingness to build businesses from the ground up;
- Strong work ethic and commercial insight;
- Commitment to creating meaningful, sustainable businesses in the long term.
Previous founding experience is not required, though having personal ideas, market insights, customer pain points, or strong opinions about industry trends is highly valued.
Benefits and Advantages
- Close cooperation with seasoned founders and operators;
- Immediate access to financial capital;
- Strategic and operational assistance throughout the venture-building process;
- Connection to a broad entrepreneurial network spanning venture, finance, and operations;
- Collaborative ideation and establishment of new companies;
- An entrepreneurial culture offering substantial ownership opportunities;
- Potential for a long-term founder position accompanied by significant equity stakes;
- Focus on ventures designed to achieve early profitability and sustainable growth, contrasting typical startup paths.
