Position Summary

The College of Health Sciences is recruiting a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level specializing in Midwifery, scheduled to begin in Fall 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing, delivering, and assessing a wide array of midwifery courses
  • Evaluating student learning and providing academic guidance
  • Managing educational resources effectively within the learning environment
  • Collaborating with clinical and industry partners for placement coordination
  • Engaging with both national and international stakeholders to maintain alignment with professional midwifery standards
  • Participating in advisory committees and fostering partnerships with other educational institutions
  • Maintaining course documentation to meet institutional and accreditation requirements
  • Contributing to curricular development and instructional improvement
  • Conducting research and scholarly activities in midwifery and supervising student projects as applicable
  • Involvement in quality assurance processes to uphold educational excellence
  • Contributing to the university’s professional, scholarly, and community endeavors with commitment to high standards in midwifery education

Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Midwifery or a related health discipline; candidates with doctorates outside midwifery must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in midwifery
  • Current registration as a practicing midwife in good standing with the regulatory authority

Experience

  • Proven academic experience and clinical practice in midwifery
  • Previous experience teaching midwifery at the tertiary level
  • At least five years of recent full-time equivalent clinical midwifery practice
  • Demonstrated expertise in diverse teaching methods for classroom, laboratory, simulation, and practical experiences
  • Proficiency in educational technologies and multiple learning platforms
  • Strong academic and information literacy capabilities
  • Preference for candidates with mentoring experience during practice practicums or at least eight years clinical midwifery experience

Scholarly and Other Skills

  • Notable history of contributing to health knowledge through applied research, publications, and dissemination
  • Preference given to those who have contributed to curriculum development and educational innovation
  • Commitment to applied and experiential learning methods consistent with UDST’s educational values
  • Ability to create and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments using modern tools to enhance content mastery and achieve program goals
  • Digital fluency including the ability to implement and model the use of emerging technology in research and teaching
  • Experience building technology-enhanced learning environments that empower active student engagement
  • Dedication to continuous professional development and lifelong learning to sustain teaching excellence
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Collaborative approach with learners, colleagues, employers, and community partners
  • Leadership experience and innovation in technology-enhanced educational initiatives
