About iScript Health
iScript Health is South Africa's rapidly expanding telehealth platform, connecting patients nationwide with HPCSA-registered medical practitioners for virtual healthcare consultations. Their vision is to establish an innovative, patient-focused primary care model in which Clinical Associates are key to broadening access to quality medical services.
Role Overview
As a Clinical Associate working remotely at iScript Health, you will conduct patient consultations via video under the oversight of a medical practitioner. This role involves managing your own patient panel, performing clinical assessments, ordering necessary investigations, and formulating treatment plans within your licensed scope. Using AI-driven electronic medical records (EMR), you will efficiently document consultations and prescribe where authorized, enhancing administrative productivity by 30–40%. Participating in clinical governance activities such as peer review, audits, and continued professional development will also be part of your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct virtual patient consultations under MP supervision.
- Maintain ongoing patient care through panel management and follow-ups.
- Perform clinical evaluations, history taking, and investigations within HPCSA guidelines.
- Serve as the primary clinical contact, escalating cases to supervising doctors as appropriate.
- Utilize AI-enhanced EMR for clinical documentation and prescribing.
- Engage in clinical governance including audits and professional development.
Essential Requirements
- BCMP qualification from Wits, University of Pretoria, or Walter Sisulu University.
- Current HPCSA Clinical Associate registration in good standing.
- Completed Community Service or officially exempted.
- Possession of indemnity insurance or willingness to be covered by iScript's policy.
- Proficiency in English for clinical documentation and transcription.
- Comfortable conducting video consultations with adequate technical setup (quiet, private space and reliable internet).
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Capability in additional South African languages such as isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, or Setswana.
- More than two years of post-community service experience to qualify for expanded autonomy.
- Experience in primary care, chronic disease management, women’s health, or mental health fields.
- PCNS registration to enable medical aid billing.
Attributes Sought
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach, listening attentively to patient needs.
- Sound clinical judgement with ability to decide when to act, wait, or escalate.
- Professional humility enabling respectful collaboration and advocacy for patients.
- Effective time management to deliver comprehensive consultations within 15 minutes without rushing patients.
- Strict adherence to the defined Clinical Associate scope of practice.
Supervision & Professional Growth
iScript applies a tiered supervision system aligned with HPCSA:
- Tier A: Under 2 years' experience—direct weekly supervision with case reviews.
- Tier B: 2–4 years’ experience—indirect supervision with regular case reviews and on-call escalation.
- Tier C: 5+ years—broader supervision allowing autonomous practice with periodic audits.
As you accrue experience, your supervision level is updated, expanding your practice autonomy.
Compensation Structure
- Payment is consultation-based, earning per completed consultation with uncapped potential.
- Stable salaried options may be provided after three months of service for those preferring consistent income.
- Medical aid billing is managed by the platform, including claims and payments, letting you focus solely on patient care.
- Competitive consultation rates range from R250 to R600 depending on complexity.
Provided Resources & Support
- Comprehensive telehealth tools including Zoom-enabled video calls, AI-assisted EMR, e-prescribing, and lab order management.
- Complete practice management encompassing scheduling, billing, medical aid claims, and patient communication.
- Access to continuing professional development modules, case discussions, and peer learning forums.
- Ability to work from any location with just a laptop, internet access, and a private space.
Application Process
- Submit your application including details, HPCSA registration number, qualifications, and motivation statement.
- Complete a brief screening assessment consisting of three short-answer and three situational judgement questions (~15 minutes).
- Record and submit a 3-minute video performing a mock patient consultation (one-take, unscripted).
- Applications undergo AI-assisted screening followed by clinical governance team review.
- Successful candidates proceed to onboarding with document verification, employment contracts, supervision assignments, and platform training.
Average time from application to first consultation is 5–10 business days.
