Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Client Onboarding Officer to join our Risk & Compliance team in either Hamburg or Berlin on a full-time, fixed-term basis starting immediately. The successful candidate will have expertise in conflict of interest clearance and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Client Due Diligence (CDD), with a skill for analyzing complex corporate structures and regulatory risks to ensure a smooth onboarding process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate conflict check outcomes generated by internal systems such as Intapp, distinguishing administrative false positives from actual legal or commercial conflicts.
  • Conduct research into corporate relationships using internal databases and external intelligence platforms to identify potential conflicts.
  • Escalate conflicts when necessary, coordinating directly with stakeholders to resolve issues swiftly and maintain clear documentation.
  • Carry out thorough due diligence on high-risk clients, including unraveling complex ownership structures to identify Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs).
  • Provide guidance on CDD requirements tailored to multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with varied regulatory frameworks.
  • Perform client risk assessments both during onboarding and updates, identifying risks through screening for adverse media, politically exposed persons (PEPs), and source of wealth or funds.
  • Create clear and concise reports for senior management review, compiling all research and approvals systematically.
  • Support fee earners, personal assistants, and business services teams with queries related to onboarding, billing, and file opening.
  • Assist the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in researching suspicious activities as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in handling conflict checks and AML procedures.
  • Comfortable working within a multi-jurisdictional legal environment.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities with clear communication of results.
  • Able to manage a substantial workload autonomously, prioritizing urgent cases while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Confident interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-driven, cooperative, and adaptable to both complex and routine assignments.
  • Familiarity with Intapp and various screening technologies.
  • Proactive, curious, and brings fresh perspectives to the role.
