Clearing and Forwarding Officer

About the Role

We are seeking a Clearing and Forwarding Officer to join our team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The selected candidate will handle critical logistics functions involving customs documentation, cargo monitoring, and warehouse management to ensure smooth import and export processes in compliance with government regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and process documentation for imports, exports, and warehousing aligned with customs regulations.
• Track cargo movements to ensure consignments are released promptly, avoiding demurrage and storage fees.
• Verify vital shipping documents such as Bills of Lading and Commercial Invoices for accuracy.
• Oversee receipt, storage, transfer, and dispatch of goods within bonded warehouses.
• Ensure strict adherence to regulatory authority guidelines and compliance standards.
• Maintain precise bonded inventory records, conducting reconciliations with customs data.
• Prepare and submit all required bonded warehouse reports and customs paperwork to the relevant authorities.
• Monitor the utilization of bonds, ensuring correct documentation related to duty suspensions and payments.
• Keep thorough records of customs declarations, licenses, permits, and shipping documents.
• Stay informed about updates and changes to customs regulations, tariffs, and trade policies affecting operations.
• Support audits connected with customs and bonded warehouse activities internally and externally.
• Coordinate with transport teams to manage cargo deliveries and collections efficiently.
• Regularly update management and clients on shipment progress and customs clearance status.
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports covering shipment status, warehouse inventories, customs clearances, and overall performance.
• Supervise and manage drivers to ensure adherence to company policies, transport procedures, safety regulations, and operational standards.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Logistics and Transport Management, Supply Chain Management, Customs Administration, Procurement and Logistics Management, International Trade, or relevant fields.
• At least two years of experience in clearing and forwarding operations.
• Background working in shipping lines, freight forwarding, logistics firms, or manufacturing sectors.
• Detailed knowledge of Tanzanian customs laws, import and export procedures, and bonded warehouse regulations.
• Excellent organizational and document management capabilities.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to operate effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• High integrity, accuracy, and keen attention to detail.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and Word.
