About the Role
The Department of Education, Western Australia, is inviting applications for cleaning and gardening positions that support public schools in creating safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environments conducive to learning. The roles contribute significantly to keeping school premises safe, tidy, and attractive for students, staff, and visitors.
Positions available include various levels of Cleaners, Gardeners, and Horticulturists, such as Cleaner, Cleaner - Working Alone, Assistant Cleaner in Charge, Cleaner in Charge, Senior Cleaner in Charge, Assistant Gardener/Handyperson, Gardener/Handyperson, Senior Gardener/Handyperson, and Horticulturist. Employment may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of school facilities every day.
- Perform gardening and grounds upkeep tasks to ensure visual and functional attractiveness of school grounds.
- Operate gardening or grounds maintenance equipment as required.
- Handle cleaning chemicals and equipment responsibly in line with safety protocols.
- Work independently or as part of a team to fulfill maintenance duties.
Requirements
- Experience in cleaning, gardening, grounds maintenance, or facility services.
- Ability to follow safe work practices, including manual handling procedures.
- Familiarity with chemical handling and equipment operation.
- Eligibility to work in Australia (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid visa with work rights).
- Must obtain a valid Working With Children (WWC) card and pass a National Criminal History Check before commencing employment.
