The salary range for this role is between $118,700 and $145,100 annually based on a 35-hour workweek, complemented with a 15% bonus target, which can be doubled depending on personal and company performance. Actual remuneration will depend on experience, skills, qualifications, and anticipated contribution.

Role Overview

As a Claims Consultant specializing in Surety for Central and Western Regions, you will join a high-performing Specialty Lines Claims team managing various Surety claims such as Contract Surety, Commercial Surety, Developer Surety, and Home Warranty claims. You will provide leadership and coaching to junior staff, collaborate closely with underwriting, and contribute to maintaining the company’s reputation for superior claims handling.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage complex surety bond claims, evaluating coverage, liability, quantum, and loss recovery while ensuring bonded obligations are met.
• Maintain effective relationships and collaboration with Surety Underwriting to provide client support on moderately complex claims matters.
• Collaborate with the Surety Claims Manager to devise and recommend claim handling and resolution strategies.
• Mentor and coach file handlers managing complex defaults related to specific exposures.
• Stay informed on industry trends and work with management to develop proactive strategies.
• Navigate insolvencies, working effectively with trustees and receivers as needed.
• Exhibit strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities, ensuring follow-through and closure of claims.
• Organize and document claim strategies and settlements within approval levels, including collecting necessary documentation.
• Manage internal and external resources such as legal counsel and consultants, optimizing expense management.
• Support departmental initiatives and adapt to changes strategically.
• Maintain transparent communication with all Surety line stakeholders to foster smooth relationships and provide exceptional service.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a legal degree.
• Have at least 5 years of experience handling surety claims or 3 to 6 years in construction and contract law.
• Experience in management, coaching, and mentoring is beneficial.
• Self-driven and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and detail-oriented skills.
• Excellent negotiation capabilities.
• Able to perform well under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
• Willingness to travel as required.
