About the Role

The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety seeks dedicated individuals to join as Child Safety Officers (CSOs) in Mackay, Queensland. Whether you are a recent graduate or seeking a career change, this role is ideal for those with experience or interest in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related fields. As a CSO, you will become a critical advocate for children and young people, ensuring their protection and welfare in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and community groups to support child safety.
  • Deliver mandatory child protection services, including assessment, intervention, casework, and case management.
  • Attend court proceedings and prepare affidavits as required.
  • Partner with other agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organizations to ensure culturally appropriate support.
  • Provide safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive assistance to families from diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related discipline, complemented by further studies or relevant practical experience.
  • Hold a valid Australian Driver’s License.
  • Have lawful work authorization in Australia.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999 and proficiency in case note documentation.
  • Exhibit excellent communication capabilities and the ability to build effective working relationships.
