Job description
Role overview
This is a remote leadership opportunity for an accomplished technology executive based in Ireland. You will help steer the technical future of an ambitious open-source virtual world powered by decentralized technologies. In this role, you will balance strategic direction with practical technical leadership, shaping architecture, security, engineering execution, and long-term product innovation for a fast-evolving multiplayer platform.
The hiring process is managed by a partner company, which will handle applications and all subsequent steps.
What you will do
- Set the overall technology direction and make sure engineering priorities stay aligned with product goals and long-term strategy.
- Guide the design, growth, and ongoing improvement of scalable architecture, front-end infrastructure, and the technical foundations of the platform.
- Create and refine robust engineering practices covering system administration, infrastructure, security, and day-to-day production operations.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor a strong engineering team while encouraging technical quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Plan engineering capacity, allocate resources, and prioritize development work to support efficient delivery.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to evolve product capabilities without compromising quality, reliability, or performance.
- Evaluate new technologies and introduce best practices across development, deployment, and operational workflows.
- Lead architecture reviews, raise code standards, and help resolve complex technical decisions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in game development, including proven success in a senior technical leadership or technology management position.
- Demonstrated experience growing engineering teams, defining development processes, and leading technology strategy in early-stage or rapidly scaling environments.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Three.js, React, Solidity, JavaScript, and C++, along with solid architecture and systems design skills.
- Good understanding of multiplayer systems, real-time software, distributed systems, and modern web technologies.
- Background in infrastructure management, system administration, application security, and production support operations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities, with the ability to coach and motivate engineering teams.
- Comfort working in a remote, globally distributed setup while balancing several priorities and technical initiatives.
- Knowledge of multiple programming languages is a plus.
- Experience building a custom game engine or contributing to advanced engine development would be a strong advantage.
Benefits
- Work remotely with the flexibility to operate from anywhere while partnering with an international team.
- Help define the technical direction of an innovative product built on open-source and decentralized technologies.
- Take on a high-impact executive role with meaningful influence over engineering strategy and organizational growth.
- Join a collaborative environment that values experimentation, innovation, and advanced technology.
- Build and mentor a world-class engineering group while shaping the culture of the organization.
- Benefit from a fast-moving hiring process and engage with meaningful technical challenges early in recruitment.
- Contribute to products at the intersection of gaming, blockchain, real-time collaboration, and the 3D web ecosystem.
