Overview
The Chief Surveyor will oversee and lead all surveying activities within bridge and infrastructure projects, ensuring precise establishment, control, and validation of construction works during all phases of the projects. This role requires significant expertise in major bridge construction, highway infrastructure, interchanges, and transportation network projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the project survey team across various bridge and infrastructure construction works.
- Formulate and execute strategic survey methodologies and procedures tailored to project needs.
- Manage resource allocation to ensure sufficient manpower and equipment availability.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to survey personnel including engineers and assistants.
- Coordinate survey activities across multiple work zones to align with construction timelines.
- Establish, control, and verify primary and secondary survey control networks.
- Oversee setting out for bridge components such as foundations, piles, abutments, piers, superstructures, decks, retaining structures, and roadways.
- Validate geometric accuracy, elevations, coordinates, and construction tolerances per approved drawings and specifications.
- Supervise survey works for complex structures including viaducts, flyovers, interchanges, underpasses, and highway bridges.
- Monitor alignment and geometry throughout bridge build stages ensuring accurate placement of bearings, pier caps, girders, and deck elements.
- Assist construction teams in resolving survey and alignment challenges.
- Develop and enforce quality control processes for survey tasks and review survey reports, field data, and as-built records.
- Ensure adherence to client standards, contractual obligations, and industry best practices through audits and inspections.
- Oversee survey data management including acquisition, processing, storage, and reporting employing tools such as Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, digital levels, laser scanners, and specialized software.
- Support adoption of GIS, BIM, and digital engineering workflows where required.
- Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, design and quality teams, project controls, and client representatives; attend progress meetings and provide technical insights.
- Promote and enforce health, safety, and environmental compliance within survey teams conducting active construction work, including risk assessments and safe working procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- Professional certification or registration in surveying preferred.
- Additional credentials in GIS, BIM, or Digital Engineering are advantageous.
Experience
- 12-15 years of surveying experience on major civil infrastructure projects, with at least 7 years in leadership roles.
- Extensive background with bridge construction, highway infrastructure, transportation corridors, major interchanges, and urban infrastructure development.
- Proven track record managing full bridge projects from foundation through superstructure phases.
- Experience on large-scale projects in the GCC, preferably Saudi Arabia, involving collaboration with international consultants, government bodies, and major contractors.
Technical Skills
- Advanced expertise in bridge construction surveying methods and geometric controls.
- In-depth understanding of bridge alignment, geometry, structural tolerances, geodetic and engineering surveying, and highway design integration.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Geo Office, and survey processing software.
- Familiarity with BIM-integrated survey processes and reviewing survey calculations and coordinate systems.
