Job description

Company Overview

Satya Carbon is an early-stage carbon platform focused on high-quality credit assessment. The company helps identify and structure capital for small and medium carbon projects that are too small on their own to interest institutional buyers, using a portfolio-based model with insurance wrapping and a Carbon Advisory engine that supports pre-validation for developers. Its due diligence framework is intentionally aligned with the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles Assessment Framework.

Role Summary

This remote contract position calls for a Chief Science Officer who will set and protect the scientific standard of the platform. The role centers on three main areas: guiding the due diligence framework, overseeing the Carbon Advisory engine, and ensuring scientific rigor across the portfolio engine. The CSO will also steer key scientific efforts, lead research and development for the carbon platform, and keep the work tightly aligned with the mission of delivering dependable, high-impact carbon credit solutions.

Core Focus

The purpose of this position is to ensure that the company maintains the highest possible scientific credibility in carbon markets.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in soil biogeochemistry, forest ecology, ecosystem science, atmospheric or carbon-cycle science, geospatial science, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience after the Ph.D. in carbon markets or climate-oriented ventures.
  • Strong strategic planning capability, with a track record of shaping and directing scientific programs that support organizational objectives.
  • Meaningful involvement in scientific or technical groups that influence carbon market integrity, such as ICVCM expert panels, VCS or Gold Standard methodology work, IPCC groups, or NRC/National Academies committees focused on greenhouse gas measurement or carbon accounting.
  • A substantial publication history in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, along with a publicly accessible Google Scholar profile.
  • No conflicting commercial board positions with competing carbon intermediaries, rating agencies, registries, VVBs, or NGOs active in voluntary carbon markets.
  • Residence in the United States is required.

Role Boundaries

  • This position is not focused on corporate sustainability, ESG reporting, or greenhouse gas accounting.
  • It is not a carbon project development role, nor is it a VVB technical assessor or a carbon-credit brokerage operations position.
  • The company is not seeking early- or mid-career applicants for this seat; it is intended for a highly senior scientific leader.

Compensation

The company is pre-seed and does not offer a cash salary. Instead, compensation is provided through a revenue-share arrangement that scales with platform performance. The ideal candidate is expected to keep a primary academic or research appointment and treat this role as a strategically selected secondary commitment with significant upside potential.
