Job description

Role Overview

PX3 Medical is searching for a Chief Operating Officer to establish, lead, and expand the locum tenens division within the United States. This critical leadership position is not a standard maintenance role but involves actively driving commercial success by engaging in revenue generation and developing a high-performing team and efficient processes for sustainable profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall growth, operational performance, and profitability of the locum tenens division.
  • Directly cultivate strategic client relationships and fulfill key assignments during the division’s initial development phase.
  • Oversee recruitment and provide leadership to account managers, recruiters, and operational teams.
  • Maintain responsibility for division financials including pricing models, pay and billing rates, gross margins, and overall profit contribution.
  • Manage operational frameworks related to credentialing, compliance, scheduling, travel logistics, and provider support.
  • Implement production benchmarks, performance metrics, accurate reporting, and forecasting systems.
  • Drive provider onboarding, manage current assignments, encourage contract extensions, and focus on provider retention initiatives.
  • Identify prevailing market opportunities such as specialties and service expansions advantageous to growth.
  • Expand strategic accounts across multiple healthcare facilities and service categories.
  • Design hiring protocols, compensation schemes, and effectively allocate resources across the division.
  • Maintain risk management practices, ensure service quality, and uphold operational discipline.
  • Coordinate integration with PX3 Medical’s existing permanent placement and executive search operations.
  • Develop and implement a long-term growth strategy with clear objectives and solid economic justification.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing locum tenens or physician staffing businesses.
  • Proven track record of personal production success, client acquisition, and team leadership in staffing environments.
  • Experience in launching new divisions, revitalizing underperforming units, or scaling locums operations substantially.
  • Expertise in staffing economics including pricing, margin optimization, and operational leverage.
  • Strong familiarity with provider credentialing, compliance protocols, and assignment operations.
  • Capability to recruit, mentor, and develop both commercial and operational teams.
  • Ownership of revenue generation, gross profit results, forecasting accuracy, and overall profitability.
  • Executive communication skills and credibility with clients at senior levels.
  • Ability to shift rapidly between high-level strategic planning and hands-on operational involvement.
  • Preference for creating streamlined infrastructures without excessive bureaucracy typical of large staffing firms.
  • Readiness to accept significant responsibility paired with substantial authority and potential financial upside.

Metrics of Success

Effectiveness in this role will be gauged by measures such as gross profit growth, number of new provider starts, active assignment counts, client and account expansion, team productivity, provider retention rates, forecast reliability, and development of scalable operational systems.
