About Coast

Coast is revolutionizing the traditional U.S. B2B card payments system, focusing on the vast commercial fleet market comprising about 500,000 fleets and 40 million vehicles. Current technologies are outdated, and Coast aims to provide these businesses with modern digital and transparent financial tools through its innovative Fleet and Fuel Card and advanced spend management platform.

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff functions as the primary operational partner to the CEO, amplifying the CEO's influence across the company. This position involves representing the CEO in key meetings and decisions when he is unavailable, ensuring that critical decisions are made and effectively communicated. This role transcends administrative tasks and requires authoritative representation backed fully by the CEO's insights and approval.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act on behalf of the CEO in internal meetings, effectively managing decisions and escalations, determining when matters can be resolved independently or require CEO input.
  • Communicate the CEO's priorities to the executive team and hold leaders accountable for their commitments.
  • Provide candid and well-considered advice to the CEO, even when opinions differ.
  • Manage the executive leadership team's operational rhythm including meetings, planning, goal setting, and business reviews, ensuring decisions lead to action.
  • Prepare meetings with necessary context and materials so all stakeholders leave with clear alignment.
  • Monitor and drive completion of decisions and commitments across the executive team to avoid any delays or oversight.
  • Lead high-priority strategic projects lacking clear ownership by defining scope, planning, staffing, execution, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with CEO and leadership to create and execute strategies for business growth and operational excellence.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks working with relevant teams, escalating to the CEO as needed.
  • Perform thorough research and analysis on varied topics to support informed decision-making by the CEO and leadership.
  • Create concise, data-driven presentations for executives, investors, and board members, facilitating board and investor communications.

Success Criteria

  • Effectively represent the CEO so that your direction carries his authority and resolve issues independently without surprises.
  • Enhance how the executive team operates by establishing a dependable cadence and follow-up system for decision-making and execution.
  • Own and deliver multiple critical projects that significantly impact company progress.
  • Earn trust as a fair, discreet, and efficient partner across the leadership team, enhancing executive effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • 7 to 12 years of experience combining analytical expertise (from fields like management consulting, investment banking, or strategy) with operational roles in rapidly growing companies; prior Chief of Staff or leadership in business operations or general management is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain the trust of CEOs or senior executives and effectively represent them to high-level stakeholders.
  • Strong executive presence and influence, comfortable engaging and challenging experienced leaders.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in interpreting data and making informed operational decisions.
  • Outstanding communication skills for aligning stakeholders ranging from board members to frontline employees.
  • Proactive adoption and utilization of AI tools to enhance productivity, with enthusiasm to expand this further.
  • Self-driven with a focus on building processes and structure amidst ambiguity, maintaining momentum without relying on predefined guidelines.
  • Experience in fintech, payments, B2B SaaS, or financial services is advantageous.
  • Located in New York City and available to work onsite three to four days per week.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range from $175,000 to $225,000.
  • Equity stake reflective of role seniority and impact, offering significant growth potential.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible paid leave including vacation, personal wellness days, and holidays.
  • Financial wellness resources such as webinars, equity tax advisory, and company-sponsored 401(k).
  • Paid parental leave.
  • $400 allowance for work accessories like keyboard, mouse, headphones.
  • Education stipend provided.
  • Complimentary lunch every Friday.
