Job description

Role overview

This is a full-time, in-office position in New York, NY with a seed-stage education technology company that is backed by venture capital and focused on the college admissions space. The business is expanding quickly as its data footprint grows, and this role is designed for a highly capable operator who can introduce structure, momentum, and disciplined execution.

The Chief of Staff will work directly with the CEO and take ownership of high-priority initiatives across the company. The position offers broad exposure, significant responsibility, and the chance to evolve into a larger operational leadership role over time, potentially with COO-level scope as the organization scales.

Compensation

Base pay is $150,000 to $200,000 annually, along with equity.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the CEO to move the company’s most important priorities forward.
  • Build, manage, and expand core Chief of Staff responsibilities as the organization grows.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, and broader talent efforts to help the team scale.
  • Coordinate with outside partners such as attorneys, advisors, and vendors.
  • Tackle complex cross-functional problems by framing the issue, creating a plan, and driving execution.
  • Work alongside the product team to help guide cross-functional efforts that influence product direction and rationale.
  • Establish operating cadences, clear ownership, and accountability in a flat organization.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, including fundraising-related and market-facing workstreams when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in a highly analytical, execution-heavy environment such as consulting, investment banking, private equity, finance, or business operations.
  • Prior startup exposure is strongly preferred, or clear evidence of success in fast-paced, resource-constrained settings.
  • Practical familiarity with the venture capital and fundraising landscape.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a polished, concise, and professional style.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and initiative, with the ability to create structure from ambiguity.
  • Comfort working with multiple stakeholders and coordinating across teams, including potential direct reports as the company grows.
  • Willingness to work onsite in New York City and travel occasionally a few times per year.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.
