Role Overview

The Chief Information Officer will set the direction for the airport’s information systems, lead digital transformation efforts, and oversee cybersecurity governance. The role is focused on building secure, well-integrated, and resilient technology environments that support operational performance and business expansion.

This position is central to ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 system availability for airport operations covering passengers, airlines, security, baggage handling, operational teams, and administrative functions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Shape the IT service structure, define team goals, review performance, and improve the methods and workflows used by the IT department.
  • Lead and develop a multi-skilled IT team through coaching, management, and capability building.
  • Create and steer the medium- and long-term IT strategy and digital roadmap in line with airport objectives.
  • Set up and maintain IT governance, standards, and enterprise architecture across the technology landscape.
  • Define the cybersecurity approach, monitor risk exposure, and safeguard critical infrastructure, systems, and data.
  • Ensure adherence to cybersecurity policies, aviation rules, and data protection requirements.
  • Contribute to risk reviews, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity preparedness.
  • Handle security incidents and drive corrective and preventive remediation actions.
  • Lead planning and approval of technology investments with attention to strategic fit and return on investment.
  • Oversee the interoperability and integration of core airport platforms such as AODB, CUPPS, FIDS, ERP, CMMS, and security systems.
  • Build data governance practices and encourage evidence-based decision-making across the organization.
  • Monitor IT risks and support compliance with audit, security, and regulatory expectations.
  • Identify practical technology innovations that can improve operational efficiency and passenger experience.
  • Work closely with executive leaders, operations teams, and external partners to keep IT initiatives aligned with business priorities.
  • Create KPIs and dashboards to track service performance, cybersecurity status, and system effectiveness.
  • Establish maintenance processes and organization structures to protect the continuity, integrity, and availability of IT services in the RUN phase.
  • Own IT project delivery during the BUILD phase, coordinating technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate deployments, migrations, and system integration activities.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and airport partners.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in IT leadership, digital transformation, or enterprise systems management.
  • Prior experience managing teams is required.
  • Experience in high-availability 24/7 operational settings is strongly preferred.
  • Background in aviation, critical infrastructure, or large-scale enterprise IT environments is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as ITIL, COBIT, ISO 27001, CISSP, or CISM are beneficial.
  • Strong command of both English and Swahili.

Additional Information
