Role Overview
The Airport Systems Engineer specializing in ICT and ELV will oversee the planning, design review, engineering coordination, supervision, testing, commissioning, and final handover of ICT, ELV, Security, and specialized airport systems for aviation infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review designs, calculations, specifications, and drawings for airport systems to ensure adherence to project requirements and standards.
- Evaluate shop drawings and technical submissions from contractors.
- Support value engineering activities to optimize design and implementation.
- Supervise installation processes, conduct inspections, and monitor contractor progress and quality assurance.
- Identify and manage non-conformities during project execution.
- Assist with testing and commissioning by reviewing procedures and witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Verify system functionality and successful integration across different systems.
- Coordinate efforts with multidisciplinary teams, clients, operators, consultants, contractors, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
- Participate actively in project meetings and planning sessions.
- Support final handover activities, including preparation of as-built documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, snagging, and final acceptance processes.
Required Airport Experience
- Experience with projects involving airport passenger terminals.
- Knowledge of cargo terminals and logistics facilities.
- Familiarity with airport security infrastructure.
- Exposure to airside infrastructure developments.
- Involvement in airport expansion and modernization programs.
- Participation in Airport Operational Readiness and Transition (ORAT) initiatives.
- Expertise in airport systems integration projects.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge in ICT systems including structured cabling, LAN/WAN networks, data centers, active equipment, wireless systems, voice and IP telephony, and cybersecurity.
- Experience with airport operational systems such as Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS), Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS), Common Use Self Service (CUSS), Baggage Handling Systems (BHS)/Baggage Reconciliation Systems (BRS), Airport Operational Database (AODB), master clock, and Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems.
- Competency with security systems including CCTV, access control, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), screening equipment, X-ray and explosive/metal detection devices, vehicle access control, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and barriers.
- Hands-on experience with ELV systems like fire alarms, Building Management Systems (BMS), IPTV, audiovisual setups, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), integrated platforms, and emergency communication systems.
Standards Knowledge
- Familiarity with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), IATA Airport Development and Operations Guidelines, FAA Advisory Circulars and design standards.
- Understanding of NFPA, IEC, TIA/EIA, and BICSI standards.
- Knowledge of local building codes, airport security regulations, and directives from aviation authorities.
Preferred Background
- Experience working on international airport initiatives.
- Exposure to greenfield airport development projects.
- Involvement in large-scale airport expansion programs.
- Participation in ORAT and airport transition operations.
- Experience coordinating complex integrated airport system projects.
- Professional engagement within the GCC region is advantageous.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, ICT, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Professional engineering registration or eligibility with recognized engineering institutions favored.
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in ICT, ELV, Security, or Airport Systems engineering.
- Mandatory minimum of 5 years of direct airport project experience.
- Professional exposure in design consultancy, project management consultancy (PMC), supervision consultancy, contractor roles, or airport operator positions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
