Job Overview

The Chief Information Officer serves as the Director of Information Technology at the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT). This leadership role is responsible for guiding the agency's technology strategy, ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, and innovative IT solutions that align with and support SCPRT’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the Information Technology division, delivering consistent and advanced technical support to various SCPRT departments including Central Office, State Parks, and Welcome Centers.
  • Advise on technology acquisitions, implementations, cybersecurity, and other technology-related needs to optimize operations.
  • Provide direction and support for data, voice, wireless networks, mobile devices, virtualization platforms, application, and reporting services.
  • Manage Network and Communications Services, Infrastructure and End User Services, as well as Application and Reporting Services.
  • Serve as a strategic technology advisor to agency personnel, aiding in the development and implementation of IT policies and operational procedures.
  • Mentor staff to align technology efforts with agency goals and objectives.
  • Oversee IT budgeting, procurement processes, and maintain collaborative relationships with the South Carolina Department of Technology and external vendors.
  • Undertake special assignments as directed by the Agency Director and Chief of Staff.
  • Promote teamwork within the office, agency-wide, and with external stakeholders, actively participating in agency teams throughout the year.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree along with at least six years of responsible administrative and management experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of planning and managing data processing programs and work activities.
  • Proven ability to lead and guide employees effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in delivering presentations and preparing reports.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work beyond a 37.5-hour week, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergency/disaster events such as hazardous weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid South Carolina driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Must be able to carry a mobile communication device if provided and available for in-state and occasional overnight travel.

Additional Information

  • The position is based at SCPRT Central Office, located in Columbia, SC.
  • Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work arrangements may be onsite, remote, or a hybrid combination.
