Position overview
The Chief Financial Officer is the senior-most finance leader in the organization, accountable for shaping financial direction, protecting capital, and supporting long-term business value. This role covers the full spectrum of financial leadership, including strategy, funding, operations, investments, mergers and acquisitions, risk, compliance, tax, treasury, and shareholder value creation. In addition, the CFO serves as the key guardian of enterprise capital, strategic planning, and sustained value growth.
Key responsibilities
The CFO will lead and coordinate major finance functions across the business, with responsibility for both day-to-day control and long-range planning.
- Develop and steer the company’s financial strategy, including capital structure and long-term financing plans that support growth and profitability.
- Oversee global financial operations such as budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and efficiency improvements.
- Manage equity and debt financing activities, and coordinate with banks and capital markets partners for funding, IPO, and refinancing initiatives.
- Assess strategic investment opportunities and direct financial evaluation for mergers, acquisitions, and broader corporate development decisions.
- Build and maintain strong risk management, compliance, and internal control systems across the enterprise.
- Lead global tax planning and treasury management, with attention to cash flow, liquidity, and capital allocation.
- Drive digital finance transformation, including AI-enabled analytics, automation, and modern financial platforms.
- Own investor relations and market communication by engaging with analysts and institutional investors and supporting the company’s capital market story.
- Provide high-level financial advice to the CEO and Board of Directors, supporting major strategic and operational decisions.
- Lead global finance teams and strengthen the finance organization through talent development and leadership systems.
Qualifications and experience
Ideal candidates typically come from finance, accounting, economics, or business management backgrounds. Professional qualifications such as CPA, CFA, or an MBA are commonly associated with this position. The role generally calls for substantial senior finance leadership experience, typically in the range of 15 to 30+ years, including work with large organizations, global finance operations, capital markets, and financing activities.
Core competencies
This position requires strong capability in financial strategy, capital allocation, risk management, investment analysis, M&A, and executive-level governance and communication.
Reporting structure
The CFO usually reports to the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors, and the Audit Committee.
Performance measures
